We love this design classic. Originally produced of Oregon pine, the highchair by Nanna Ditzel comes in two primary designs. One version features a wipeable vinyl seat with a leather T-strap, making it suitable for older babies and toddlers. The solid wood version has no T-strap, making it more appropriate as a booster-style seat for older toddlers and smaller preschoolers. So simple, so beautiful, love it!

In a small workshop in France, these charming, accurate bird calls are produced by hand. Each has taken many years to develop, and is overseen by Fran├žois Morel, a gentleman that has been making bird calls since he was a child, growing up in the mountains of Southern France.

Aside from communication tools of the oiseaux variety, the calls are quite beautiful; made from such materials as beech, maple, leather, and brass, they are a fine example of craft with integrity.

Though these calls are toys, of sorts, they’re not intended for children, nor for hunters or the disturbance of nesting birds, as the company responsible for the calls, Quelle est Belle, clearly states on their website: “We retain the right to refuse to supply people who cannot fully guarantee their respect for nature,” and, inside the bird call packaging is a small note: “We have put our whole heart into the conception of our nature toys and we hope that those who handle them will use them to good intent.”

Quelle est Belle bird calls are available internationally via their website.

Flying Eye Books from James D Wilson on Vimeo.

This is a wonderful little animated short for “Flying Eye Books”. It features the illustrations of Ben Newman animated by Jambonbon (James D Wilson). I love this. The piece has a great rhythm to it, and the simple illustrations lend themselves so well to the animation shown here. Now here is something to think about; look at the walk cycles for each character, and count the number of characters. Once again, what look so simple is rather complex and a bit involved. Have a lovely weekend!
